Dominik Wozniak - Software Developer (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the UMBRA: Shadow Work Journal mobile application (the “App”).

At UMBRA, we understand that you are entrusting us with your most private thoughts, emotions, and “shadows.” Our commitment to your privacy is absolute and follows a “Privacy-by-Design” approach.

1. The Zero-Knowledge Principle

The core philosophy of UMBRA is that your reflections are yours alone.

  • Local Storage: All journal entries, emotion tags, and psychological reflections are stored locally on your device using encrypted expo-sqlite storage.
  • No Cloud Sync: We do not maintain servers that store your personal entries. We cannot read, access, or sell your data because we never receive it.
  • Zero-Access: Even as the developers, we have technical no way of accessing your “Shadow” content.

2. Information Collection and Use

Personal Identity

  • Alias/Username: During onboarding, you may provide an alias. This is used solely for UI personalization and remains strictly on your device.

Biometric Authentication (Face ID / Touch ID)

  • UMBRA offers biometric locking to protect your journal.
  • The App uses official Apple iOS Biometric APIs. We never collect, store, or have access to your Face ID or Touch ID data. The authentication process is handled entirely by the iOS operating system.

In-App Purchases & Subscriptions

  • Transactions are processed securely via the Apple App Store.
  • We receive a randomized subscriber ID to verify your Premium status.
  • We do not have access to your credit card details or billing address.

3. Anonymous Analytics

To improve the App’s stability and UX, we use PostHog for anonymous telemetry. We strictly filter this data to ensure it contains:

  • NO journal content or text from your entries.
  • NO personal identifiers (names/emails).
  • ONLY technical metrics (e.g., “did the paywall load?”, “app crash report”, “average session duration”).

You can opt-out of analytics at any time in the App Settings.

4. Data Security & User Responsibility

Since UMBRA is an offline-first application, you are the sole guardian of your data.

  • Backups: Deleting the App or losing your device will result in the permanent loss of your entries, as we do not keep copies.
  • Protection: We strongly recommend enabling the App’s built-in Biometric Lock.
